Third Term 2008, Chilly!

Slow start to the term! A grandfather died so three kids had to stay back for the ceremonies. Then the Pope being in Australia pushed the fares up to the $900 mark, and next week, when fares were finaancially accessible, the kids missed the flight.

The Airlines really are very good and look for a way to accommodate aboriginal problems, but we did not think it fair to push them yet again, and the term is half over, and we are over budget, so those kids can try again next term - $1600 in fares down the drain!!
We know we would get better results per dollar if we worked with Sudanese refugees rather than aborigines.

But there is a dimension that Australia exists on poor foundations if we can't deliver justice to the original inhabitants. That is about what Bishop Polding said 150 years ago!
So we are back at it, if this task was easy it would probably not be the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

The three kids at Downlands are having a good term - despite Toowooomba being a long way from the Sauna back home!

The AFL and the Lions supplied free tickets to the Gabba on Saturday night, and GBJT tennis at UQ keep up the support, so we plod on as we have since May 2006 and continually thank supporters for keeping the funds flowing.

Air fares have doubled since this time last year, so the budget is bleeding to death!
