Selina and Noreen at GBJTennis
For the past four years, GBJT has been one of the mainline supportsfor Tiwi the program.GBJT President Peter Davis again welcomed the Tiwi kids and supplied them with GBJT Tennis shirts as honary members.
Noreen and Selina spent the rest of the weekend practicing tennis - it is a pity we don't get aborigines playing tennis, it would be a quick way of getting players in the rankings !
Selina and Noreen met up with GBJT mum Patricia Sutcliffe - Patricia had been a student at Downlands up until 1996 and is now a Marine Biologist - protecting the living things that are threatened in the northern coastal waters. The three girls (Selina, Patricia and Noreen) talked of going hunting for shell fish LongBum together in the Nguiu Mangroves could work together and learn from one another and have something nice to eat at the end! Maybe during the September Holidays ??
For the past four years GBJT parents have always been very welcoming of the tiwi and in this tough economic climat, we thought we might allow them to help financially, because it is costing Kenmore Parish StVdep Society $6000 per kid in fares and clothing to keep them at school at Downlands.
You could go to the StVdeP website https://www.vinnies.org.au/show_appeal.cfm?table=appeals&parentid=0&id=43, pull down the Tiwi Project option, and give us a hand!
After Tennis we went to the football and met up with two Brisbane Lions players Todd Banfield and Pierce Hanley - Pierce was recruited in Ireland and Noreen and Selina invited him to come to the Tiwi Island and learn how to play AFL fast and furious!
If you have any ideas that would make this Tiwi project better, please drop me a line: phillipwh@gmail.com
